A gauze tie was placed around the everted upper lip of a dog. A Surgicutt Adult device was placed on the exposed lip (avoiding obviously engorged vessels) and was activated. The lancet created a 5 mm long by 1 mm deep cut in the oral mucosa (yellow arrow). As soon as the cut was made, a stop watch was started. A piece of filter paper was placed just below the cut and used to blot the dripping blood. Once crescents of blood stopped forming, the stop watch was stopped and the BMBT was recorded. In this dog, the BMBT was normal (2.2 minutes).
