How Accolade, Meritain, and Aetna work together

If you’re a Meritain Health medical plan member, we know it may be confusing to understand how Meritain Health, Aetna, and Accolade work together to help you stay healthy. These 3 partners work together behind the scenes to provide you with the best experience. Here’s what you need to know.

Accolade — your personalized health assistant

Accolade helps you navigate the health care system. Health Assistants can answer your health care questions, help you understand your coverage, find a new doctor or provider, resolve claims or billing issues, and so much more. Contact Accolade for any health care needs.

Meritain Health — your medical insurance provider and claims processor

Meritain Health is your health insurance provider. When you need medical care, your doctor / provider will bill Meritain Health for services. Meritain will then pay their portion of your medical claim and will provide you with an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

You do not need to contact Meritain. Any questions that would normally go to your health insurance provider should be directed to Accolade.

Aetna — Meritain Health’s provider network

Aetna is the provider network for Meritain Health. When you and your covered family members need care, you have access to Aetna’s national network of doctors, behavioral health providers, urgent care centers, hospitals, and other medical facilities — in-network. If you need to find an in-network provider, contact Accolade.

Virtual care through Accolade Care

You have access to Accolade Care, allowing you to see doctors and therapists by phone or computer — day or night. Get support for urgent care needs, including the flu, a sore throat, or an infection, or virtually see the same doctor or therapist for ongoing care needs, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Virtual care can be used for many of the same reasons you would visit a doctor in person, such as for prescriptions, mental health, or sleep problems.

Your cost for virtual care services is based on your medical plan’s coverage for office visits.

Note: Accolade Care is not available to Kaiser medical plan members or to those who waived medical coverage.

Second medical opinion through Accolade Expert MD

All PayPal employees and eligible dependents have access to Accolade Expert MD, Accolade’s medical opinion service. You can arrange for a second opinion from a world-renowned doctor about a diagnosis, treatment option, surgery, or medication that you may be feeling unsure about — at no cost to you. You do not need to be enrolled in a PayPal medical plan to use this service.
